Hills Like White Elephants

the story had me a bit confused so i read it over a few times. I feel so sad for Jig. Its seems like the operation the American wants her to get is an abortion. At first he puts the idea in her head as an option and then he does a reverse psychology on her. He tells her its going to be simple almost natural, like he has any idea of what its like. So it seems that Jig just gives in to his idea. She is so concerned about things going back to normal and she just wants him to love her. I assume after hearing Jig speak this way, the American starts to feel bad. He wants to make it seem that they came to an agreement about the solution, that he wasn't the one who forced it on her. Jig says that she will go through with the operation, but she isn't so happy about it.

This connects to relationships today. The guy in the relationship gets into a predicament where he may not be ready for a baby, but the girl wants to have it. He then makes her feel bad by putting ideas in her head that they won't be able to take care of the baby since they are still young and are probably not yet stable. Its sad that this still happens today. I really enjoyed this story and the sceneries.
